Medium-Based Design: Supporting Bricoleur Designers

چکیده
The design of learning environments is a fundamental part of education research today. In this article, we put forth a design method, medium-based design (MBD), to create useful learning environments that foster inquiry, support artifact construction, and enable interaction with targeted learning content through a medium.

Seismic Response of 4-Legged Self-Supporting Telecommunication Towers
Telecommunication tower is an important component of the basic infrastructure of communication systems and thus preserving them in events of natural disasters - such as a severe earthquake - is of high priority. In past studies, researchers have mostly considered the effects of wind and earthquake-induced loads on 3-legged (triangular cross-section) self-supporting steel telecommunication tower...
متن کاملSupporting Evaluation in Design
Design problem-solving requires designers to be creative and to express evaluative judgments. Designers propose successive partial solutions and evaluate these solutions with respect to various criteria and constraints. Evaluation plays a major role in design because each successive evaluation step guides the course of design activity. However, evaluation of design solutions is difficult for bo...
متن کاملWhen Teaching Meets Learning: Design Principles and Strategies for Web-based Learning Environments that Support Knowledge Construction
While many writers have produced comprehensive guidelines to assist developers of conventional print-based learning materials, few have produced similar sets for designers of technology-based resources supporting flexible delivery. This paper explores some of the issues surrounding the design and development of Web-based materials and provides some firm guidelines which have been used successfu...
متن کاملBeyond the macho approach of artificial intelligence: empower human designers - do not replace them
Designers deal with ill defined and wicked problems that are characterized by fluctuating and conflicting requirements. Traditional design methodologies that are based on the separation between problem setting (analysis) and problem solving (synthesis) are inadequate for the solution of these problems. The supporting of design with computers requires a cooperative problem-solving approach that ...
متن کاملDesigner’s Toolkit 2020: a Vision for the Practice
Designer’s toolkit is rapidly changing and design practices need a shared vision of what the short, medium and long term might be. With this in mind we interviewed twenty-four thought leaders in the design community worldwide. Four big ideas emerged from the interviews: transferring technologies from other industries has provided great benefits, but it has also generated the need to transfer pr...
